Camp Rollerblade

Walter and Carolyn, thanks so much for your wonderful help on Saturday.

I was amazed that I could actually skate by the end of the day.

We copped out on Sunday to help Jeff's parents pack up -- they are moving to Columbus after 30 years living in Oxford, Michigan.  They just sold their house and need to be in another place by July 15.

Question: are you THE Walter Johnson who played football in Cleveland for the
Browns??

Thanks again, you are two terrific human beings and teachers.

Dear Walter and Carolyn:

Many thanks again for an informative and motivating weekend. I have already found ways to integrate what I learned into my training.

Quick on Their Feet, Rollerbladers Come Together on Detroit's Streets

BY: MAUREEN MCDONALD, 9/9/2008

One by one the folks wearing thick helmets and with narrow wheels on their feet circled round a bar on Joseph Campau, swapping skate stories on this scorching August evening. Their stories have been collected over 20 years of skating with groups like City Rollers (now defunct) and Motor City Blade Runners.

“We are lucky to have Walter as our Camp Rollerblade Coordinator in Detroit,” Allan Wright, owner of Zephyr Adventures and Camp Rollerblade, said. “Not only does he have years of teaching experience, but he is also committed to bringing the sport of inline skating to as many people in the Detroit area as possible.”

City Blades:
Inline with Walter

Since Walter Johnson first tried on a pair of inline skates ten years ago, he rarely takes them off. “I was at a restaurant downtown when a group of skaters (City Rollers inline skate club) came in with their skates on!” Johnson said. “I was so impressed that I asked where they met. After taking a lesson on stopping and turning, I was off.

They Said What?

Double knee replacement patient to race Belle Isle

by Robert

Press Release

DOUBLE KNEE REPLACEMENT PATIENT TO RACE IN A

½ MARATHON IN-LINE RACE

Detroit MI.—Walter Johnson, after having the left knee replaced February 27 and the right March 6 is training to compete in the 1st Annual Wolverine In-line Marathon Saturday, May 27th. Races begin at 6:45 a.m. (rain or shine). Skaters of all abilities will participate in the full 26.2 mile marathon or 13.1 mile half marathon.

Walter, a mere 63, is one of Detroit’s avid in-line skaters, past president of the Motor City Blade Runners In-line Skate Club, owner of Detroit Blading Co. Inline Skate School and a certified in-line skate instructor.

Dr. Robert Ference, Director, Sinai-Grace’s Joint Plus Excel program, performed this surgery. The procedure is a minimally invasive joint replacement surgery. Dr. Ference has modified the procedure by releasing the soft tissues surrounding the knee joint rather than cutting the quadriceps muscle. This modification has helped reduce recovery time and improve patient performance.

See you at the races!

Hi Walter:

I just got home from the St Paul marathon--I did it in 1:59:14! Anyway, your pointers paid off and I feel pretty good about the time especially since it was my first big race.

Why stroll when you can ROLL?

This is an article about one of my favorite "skater people" that is in the Detroit Free Press.

Once you meet Walter and his significant other Caroline at any of the skating events around the country, you just can't help wishing that they lived in Dallas.

Fired Up and Ready to Roll!
By Carlesa Williams, About.com Guide  June 9, 2011

After a two-year absence from inline skating instruction, Walter Johnson of the Detroit Blading Company is all fired up and ready to roll. He is offering an adult beginner inline skate class on Saturday, June 25, 2011 at the Modern Skate & Surf indoor skatepark located at 1500 North Stephenson Highway in Royal Oak, Michigan.
This class is intended for new skaters and returning skaters who may need a few pointers to get going again. As part of Walter's Detroit Blading Company policy, returning students can attend any beginner class at no charge. And the DBC offers a complete refund if they can't teach you to stop, turn and stride one beginner session.http://inlineskating.about.com/bio/Carlesa-Williams-29204.htmhttp://inlineskating.about.com/bio/Carlesa-Williams-29204.htmhttp://inlineskating.about.com/od/howtoinlineskat1/p/Detroit-Blading-Company.htmhttp://inlineskating.about.com/od/howtoinlineskat1/p/Detroit-Blading-Company.htmhttp://www.modernskate.com/http://www.modernskate.com/http://inlineskating.about.com/od/howtoinlineskat1/p/Detroit-Blading-Company.htmshapeimage_9_link_0shapeimage_9_link_1shapeimage_9_link_2shapeimage_9_link_3shapeimage_9_link_4shapeimage_9_link_5
